John Holmwood mural at risk..

A large and unique mural attributed to Auckland artist John Holmwood is at risk..

Painted in the dining area at The school for the Deaf in Kelston shorty after its construction in 1960, the mural is one of a very few still surviving.

Considered a large part of the schools history, it is in need of removal as necessary improvements to the buildings are soon to be implemented which the mural no longer fits into. The school is looking at ways to preserve, fund and find a home for the 9 metre wide artwork painted straight on to the original gib-board wall.
