Murals: a forgotten art.
Lost Property is working towards publishing a history of mural works related to the modernist period in Auckland (and the country). The initial work done for the James Turkington article (see: Artists and Writers page) is to be expanded to take in the vast amount of works that were implemented. This will range from the Milan Mrkusich work for the BJB Ball building, Maurice Smiths works for Alfred Buckland, Guy Ngan’s work for Mark Brown & Fairhead to Turkington’s lost works at ‘Coutt’s the Chemist’ in Whangarei.!
An early version of this data will be online over the next few months, but obviously this will contain large deficits which we hope can be augmented over time.
Any information about mural works by local artists would be gratefully received. Please get in touch through the contacts page.
