Rolland Vincent Adams – Dunedin (Otago Boys High School) ANZIA 1959 -Dip Arch (University of Auckland; School of Architecture)
Brian Dodd – (University of Auckland; School of Architecture)
Formed Adams & Dodd in 1960 as winners of University of Otago competition to design a new Library- while both were still working in other architectural firms at the time (Adams for Crookes and Galloway, Dodd working for Mark Brown and Fairhead) Also, both were still in their late twenties (26 +27). With the Otago Library project underway the practice entered the Auckland domestic market, designing modern houses in Remuera and St Heliers as well as upmarket beauty salons in Hamilton and Auckland (‘Maeder’) Home & Building Nov 1962. The December 1964 issue of Home & Building contains an article “Overlooking Auckland City” showing the Adams Dodd designed house with projecting ‘outriggers’ …
The practice would go through several different permutations over the next two decades, eventually residing at 82 Symonds St with Neville Price Associates, the two companies occupying the upper floors – and looking across Whittaker place at the Jasmax building.
