1950: The Group ArchitectsBill Wilson, Bruce Rotherham, James Hackshaw, Allan Wild, Bret Penman, Ivan Juriss, Campbell Craig

Well documented practice formed at Auckland School of Architecture around 1946. In later months of 1949 Bret Penman’s father put up money to build a house (1st house as Group Construction) which received large amounts of publicity- (and sold) thereby allowing the practice to build another and garner further commissions. 27a Rutland St,(1951) Bruce Rotherham’s design for his family was another unique construction.

Dr Grant’s house in Church St, Devonport was designed by Craig shortly after he left the Group. The house is raised upon large reinforced concrete piers giving extra useable area on a steep site as well as vast views across the harbour (c. 1954 ). Further information and images forthcoming.
