Lost Property Blog – By Greg Smith

Welcome to Lost Property…

Friday 15th Oct saw the official book launch (and opening of ‘the Group Architects’ exhibition) at the Gus Fisher Gallery in Shortland St. The book (edited by Julia Gatley) contains a wealth of material about the practice, from early beginnings through to later period works of Wilson Juriss, etc..

Additional essays fill out the second section of the 250+ page volume. Most of the major buildings/houses are  covered with historical and contemporary images as well as redrawn plans or elevations. (From Auckland University Press) Understandably, the exhibition seems less successful, largely filled with (expensive ?) overweight reframed plans and black and white images (and some odd matte cutting). The far end of the  grey gallery contains some colourful relief with a selection of Bruce Rotherham’s design and art works, several large prints of Simon Devitt’s images from the book and a number of sponsored models by the School of Architecture students.

The publication is a substanstial and significant advance, and will no doubt extend the awareness and appreciation of these unique buildings – and the history around them,  to a much wider public.

Well done Greg. What a mission. It is fabulous already and will become fantastic when you get the opportunity to load some images. Congratulations!
